Q&A: What’s next for KMS?
Not too long ago I blogged about MapleStory 2 and major updates coming to 2010.
Yesterday an article was published on insoya.com with very appreciated information.
A user conference was held in Korea where people had the opportunity to attend a Q&A session and ask some questions to the MapleStory team.
Summary of the Q&A:
- Windowed mode coming soon if no problems are coming to the surface.
- When asked if they will make Adventurer stronger, they said a balancing patch is scheduled for January.
- The Arch Mage will probably get a skill rebalance (because you have to agree that the Arch Mage is weak) along with Shadower and Paladin.
- There was a question about the ”one-kill” skill of the Bishop and Arch Mage. But this question couldn’t be answered. Changing everything at one time is asking for problems.
- They say it’s best to balance the jobs first than releasing high leveled content first. High leveled content for +100 is planned after this.
- The reason that the new EXP party formula exists is because it would be unfair to get EXP by not playing the game correctly. You need to put effort in gaining EXP. They are not going to change the formula.
- There are no plans to make Pink Been weaker. They thought that the players would have killed Pink Been in 4 months.
- Eliminating bots (automatic macro program) is one of their priorities.
- Adventurers, Knights of Cygnus, Aran and Evan cannot share the Cash Shop because when the Pirate job was released, they did not make a lot of money from it while spending a lot of time for development. Money is just required. They are still thinking if they should unite the Cash Shop among Adventurer and Knights of Cygnus.
- In March there will be a really big patch.
Seems like 2010 is going to be a big year for MapleStory Korea.
They can be a lot more creative and add unique stuff such as Guild fights / PvP or a Lv. 200 dungeon.

It’s funny that I don’t see the design that KMS, MSEA and GMS used.
I mean, look at the logo… I think they used copy and paste for that.
If you look at the Aran website of KMS, MSEA or GMS, you would see that they all use the same design. Neat design.
Anyway, I saw something interesting on the website:
That crystal ball I circled was the first thing I noticed when I visited the website.
That crystal ball is related to Evan.
As Evan, you will see this object in a dragon cave when you have a specific quest in progress.
Hmm… It’s strange to use something that is related to Evan.
Will JMS get Evan before MSEA or the other versions?
Lately JMS has been falling behind on game updates.
JMS will get Aran on 16th December, 2009.
KMST V273 ~ New world & character selection screen and Evan changes
Five more days left! This patch changes a few skills of Evan, but the nerf is not that bad.

Geez.. Again? I don’t like this new UI. I liked the UI with the short description of the class.

Evan skill changes:
Critical Magic
The critical damage has been reduced and the probability has been increased.
Lv. 1 : 16% probability to deal 108% critical damage (11% probability / 114% critical damage)
Lv. 5 : 20% probability to deal 120% critical damage (15% probability / 130% critical damage)
Lv. 15 : 30% probability to deal 150% critical damage (25% probability / 170% critical damage)
Recovery Aurora
The skill consumes MP and HP. The MP recovery has been increased.
Lv. 1 : -18 MP & HP; Restores 38% MP; Cooldown of 1 minute (-18 MP; 13% MP Recovery)
Lv. 10 : -30 MP & HP; Restores 65% MP; Cooldown of 1 minute (-30 MP; 40% MP Recovery)
Lv. 15 : -34 MP & HP; Restores 80% MP; Cooldown of 1 minute (-34 MP; 55% MP Recovery)
Blessing of Onyx
Cooldown time reduced to 2 minutes.

KMS version 1.2.87 ~ Dragon Rider PQ
Just 8 days to go for the release of Evan.
Recently MapleStory released a new patch with the new attribute weapons and Dragon Rider PQ.
Utah’s Farm (map where Evan begins) is accessible, but it is nott important for you if you are a Adventurer, Cygnus or Aran.
The size of the patch is 82 MB. So I expect the release of Evan to go smoothly…so I patched very fast and I was anxious to play, but the damn HackShield was acting stupid…
I had to re-download the whole setup because there was something about HackShield.
Not only that, after the first patch, there has been five minor patches…MapleStory even posted an apology on their website because of the many minor patches. -_-;;
In this patch, the hands of the new attribute weapons were lowered.

156 Evan at Road of Regrets 5
New Lv. 105 weapons were added in KMST ver. 1.2.270.
Some people might have noticed that there is a job requirement to wear a particular weapon.
In this video, you see a Lv. 156 Evan wearing it, but Evan is not a F/P Arch Mage..
This means that if you want to deal critical damage the required job to do so would be the F/P Arch Mage. Other magicians can wear this staff, but without the critical damage benefit.
This Evan has 1178 Hands, so he gains 50 HP every time when kills a monster.

Update! (6/12)
A whole bunch of updates and a buffed up Evan.
During testing period, Nexon opened a survey to collect feedback about Evan.
I think everyone would agree with me that Evan was very slow at hunting, but.. finally they improved the attack speed and damage of certain skills.
There is also a new party quest for Lv. 100~200. Not a lot of information about this…
Keep in mind that this is in the test server, the level requirement might change once it is implemented in the official server.

I’m kinda late with this because this cash item was already released in version 1.2.267.
Anyway, with this cash item, you can make certain items tradeable..
I don’t know which items it can make tradeable but..
It can make medals tradeable…
And.. Mounts & Saddles can be traded as well!..
Besides that, in version 1.2.265 (I know, an old update…) new strings were found.

MapleStory 2 & Major updates in 2010
Last year, I posted an entry about MapleStory 2 and MapleStory going 3D.
Many people were confused and thought MapleStory 3D was MapleStory 2. Well, here’s an update: it’s not.
MapleStory 2 was brought up and it was said in a press conference (to introduce the new class Evan) that the development team for MapleStory 2 was created last year and has been in development.
That’s all what we get to hear, more details cannot be revealed at the moment.
At least, it is 100% confirmed that the sequel to MapleStory will be released in the future.
In 2010, there will be major updates. For instance, in winter, MapleStory will release a new class + another major update. And the next summer, they are thinking whether they should release a new class or update current ones.
It’s not a surprise that more classes will be created, seeing the two latest (Aran & Evan) belong in the ”hero” category.
Now to something else: Today, at G-STAR 2009, players can experience the new class Evan in advance. (Can only access a few maps)
The teaser website opened as well, which shows us that Evan will be released in KMS on December 17, 2009.

Will Nexon break another record?
December 2007 Pirate: A total of 200,000 simultaneous users was measured.
December 2008 Knights of Cygnus: A total of 250,000 simultaneous users was measured.
July 2009 Aran: A total of 200,000 simultaneous users was measured.
The class that achieved the highest amount of concurrent users is Knights of Cygnus. Do you think Evan will surpass the 250,000 mark?
